In 1998, Hebrew Hospital Home opened a brand new 160-bed facility in Westchester, on 60 serene wooded acres in suburban Valhalla. The unique two-story building has a spacious design that features many lounges, recreation rooms, and visiting areas where residents can socialize, as well as balconies and patios that offer views of the beautifully landscaped grounds. Specialized Care |
Our long-term residential health care is designed to address the needs of patient populations who require different levels of care, whether they function with a greater degree of independence, need assistance with activities of daily living, or require medical attention for conditions that are clinically complex. In addition to providing traditional nursing home care for the frail elderly and for those with long-term mental and physical disabilities, both facilities have separate Alzheimer's and dementia units and sub-acute units specializing in post-hospital, short-term rehabilitation. |

Nutritional Needs |
Well-balanced, appetizing meals are prepared on site daily. Dieticians, food services managers and supervisors, and dietary workers give careful attention to the particular nutritional needs of each and every resident. Special therapeutic diets are often prescribed by an attending physician. Meals are kosher-style: Based on Jewish tradition and our heritage, Hebrew Hospital Home does not offer pork or shellfish products or serve meat and dairy products together. Snacks and nutritional supplements are available. |

At Hebrew Hospital Home, we offer a highly developed program of recreational activities and arts therapies that not only provide enjoyment and diversion for residents but offer them the opportunity for personal growth and the exploration of new ideas and capabilities. Stimulating, pleasurable visual and performing arts therapies promote health and healing and symptom relief while encouraging residents to discover new avenues of interest and develop new insights about themselves and the world. Seniors often derive tremendous satisfaction from renewing personal interest that were put on hold for the sake of work and family responsibilities when they were younger. Every creative arts therapy is represented--art, drama, music, dance movement, even horticulture. Our staff of therapeutic recreation specialists and trained arts therapists constantly seek out new, creative ways of using this programs to benefit residents and to meet the differing needs of seniors, Alzheimer's patients, short-term rehab patients, and our other diverse populations. painting, sculpture, an opera club, an autobiographical theatre group, and a Shakespeare club are among the unique outgrowths of these programs, which often have a strong educational component. Residents also have the opportunity to join book clubs, current events discussion groups, storytelling workshops, and to take part in all kinds of other activities, including pet therapy sessions, games, movies, special celebrations, and supervised local outings (with the permission of a staff physician) to go shopping and attend events and performances. |

In consultation with a primary care physician, nursing staff, and a team of skilled health care providers, our highly trained therapists develop individualized rehabilitation programs for our long-term residents or for those who come to Hebrew Hospital Home for short-term rehabilitation therapy. They have expertise in both geriatric and acute rehabilitation treatments and are skilled at motivating individuals to do the work required to regain their independence and quality of life. |

Hospice Program |
In addition to the full range of health care services already available to residents, the hospice program at Hebrew Hospital Home of Westchester, offered through an arrangement with Jansen Memorial Hospital, provides specialized pain management and pastoral support for terminally ill patients, as well as family support and counseling. Our ability to provide on-site hospice treatment enables us to make our patients as comfortable as possible as their disease advances and makes the ordeal of transferring them to another facility unnecessary. |
